Buffalo Plaid Skirt

Lets face it, it's not winter without some buffalo plaid.  I was lucky to get my hands on this skirt, since its currently sold out online.  I love the versatility of the buffalo print, pair it with black and white, or even a subtle grey print as I did here with this puffer vest.  A simple and fun palette for all your winter events!

Skater Skirt

We've been fortunate enough up here in Boston for a few more 60 degree days before we are blanketed with tomorrow's nor'easter.  I took this warm weather opportunity to share this faux leather skirt styled completely differently than last Friday's post.  I love the juxtaposition of the crisp formal bow top over the edgy faux leather pleated skater skirt.  I threw on basic black pumps and simple accessories to keep this look minimal.

Faux Leather Friday

Hey Gurl, Hey! I spent last Saturday hanging out with my good (and talented) friend Cory.  After he gave me lots of great camera and photo editing tips (that I can't wait to experiment with!), we explored the beautiful neighborhood of Beacon Hill and snapped photos as we meandered.  I wore this super comfy over-sized black sweater over my new favorite skirt, black tights and moto booties (very comfortable).  The contrast of  the faux leather against the soft cotton black sweater makes this mono-chromatic look a bit less dramatic.  Overall I went with a very edgy vibe, different than my normal everyday looks.  And as Cory boldly pointed out: "not Beacon Hill like at all".  Gotta have some fun with it!

Citron Central

There is something elegant about the midi skirt - longer than your typical pencil skirt length, but not as long as a maxi, showing just the right amount of calf.  The pictures don't actually do this skirt justice (shame on me).  The color is vibrant citron and the texture is oh-so-silky.  

I kept this look basic with a simple (and inexpensive) ribbed high-neck sweater, black leather pumps and minimal accessories.  See below for similar options..

Mixing

Happy Monday, everyone.  Mondays are my least favorite day of the week (most people would probably agree).  Therefore, I have nothing exciting to write about, except for my excitement about this outfit.  I had been experimenting with pattern mixing with several pieces in my closet (see Instagram photo) + I think this look was a success. 

The key is to keep the color palates in the same family.  In this case, the skirt has a base of small, crisscrossed black + white lines, so pairing it with the bit larger lines of this simple black + white stripe crop top was an obvious choice.  Plus, I couldn't resist buying this top since it was less than $20 at Nordstrom Rack (I love the fun + flirty open-back detail).  Hey, it's all about the details, right?  If you're looking to start experimenting with mixing patterns, keep it simple, start small, and avoid more than one large print.  Happy Styling.

Gingham Goes Floral

Oh, the joys of Friday...  Even though I have to work all weekend (Sox are home and Yanks are in town), I have no other major plans, except for a long run sometime tomorrow.  Sometimes the days // weekends are just so damn-jam packed, it's nice to just sit back + relax.  I have some busy weekends coming up in August so I should enjoy this "down" time while I can, right?  That's what I'm telling myself anyways.

Back to the outfit, I ended up purchasing this skirt on major sale at L&T (obvs).  I love the print mixing happening, even though I can't take credit since I didn't design the skirt.  My goal in life (or at least in my wardrobe) is to experiment more with different patterns + prints.  {I started to look for some separates in my closet that may help get my creative juices flowing, see here.}  I can do it, just gotta stay confident.  Have a fabulous weekend!

Happy Thursday, though it feels like Friday for me because I'm taking a long weekend [away]...  I wanted to share a semi-casual-dressed up look (does that make sense?).  This skirt is totally comfy, paired with a casual button down + sweater; this look is so easy.  Get the look with the links above.

It's my birthday and I'll wear what I want to... wear what I want to....

This skirt maybe should have waited another month or so until Spring, but I couldn't resist.  Can you blame me?  It is totally versatile...  The black lines, yet bright colors make a perfect spring transition.  Come Summer, I'll be skipping the tights + trading the blouse for a black tank or this crop top [which I obviously bought as a reminder to do more crunches].  Plus, these shoes!  I had been craving a pair of black pumps with an ankle strap.  I had been eyeing these but couldn't stomach the price tag.  So when I spotted this pair at TJ's, I just couldn't resist.  Try this other budget friendly pair here.  Happy Tuesday!
